Shutters for Arched Windows

Do you have a complicated window to cover? Maybe a triangle, or an arch, or you have to cover a door way? Nothing fits complicated windows like real wood shutters. Shutter manufacturers can build in any shape and style you have.

Traditional window coverings such as wood blinds, honeycomb shades, vertical blinds, etc. can only cover basic or square windows. They don’t have the versatility of custom-built wood shutters.

Now I keep saying real wood, that’s because Faux or Plastic Shutters are becoming increasingly popular. But you cannot cover patterned windows with a Faux shutter. That plastic just doesn’t make the same shapes as a professional Wood Shutter manufacturer can produce.

It will also look great from both inside your home and outside. Much better than trying to cover an arched window with a square treatment.

Wood Blinds and Shutters Care and Cleaning

After you purchased your new wood blinds or wood shutters you’re going to want to take good care of them. You don’t want to use a wood polish or any detergent. Some polishes actually attract more dust.

We recommend cleaning your blinds by using microfiber towels. Get the towel completely wet, then wring the towel dry by hand. Get it as dry as you can by hand so water does not leak out of the towel and out to your shutters. Wipe down each shutter louver or blind slat by hand.

 

It’s cheap, easy, fast & effective.

The other method we recommend is to simply buy new blinds every 3 or 4 months. They will stay cleaner, and you will be doing your part to help out the economy! This is also something you can do at BlindDevotion.com

What a Window Should Wear

When you decide to buy new blinds and shutters, BlindDevotion.com will ask you a few simple questions. The first one seems silly but it’s the best question to ask, “Why do you want to cover that window”.  It’s a question that should be asked about every window in the house.

• Do you need room darkening blinds?
• Are you just trying to decorate a little?
• Is privacy a concern?
• What about insulation?

Many times we see people who have invested in a golf course lot or a beautiful pool and landscaping in their back yard, and they are considering shutters on their back windows. We will usually discourage this because you paid for the view and then you are going to cover up that beautiful view with shutters? Not a good idea. Usually in this situation we will recommend Honeycomb shades or Vignettes or a roller shade, basically something that pulls up and out-of-the-way.

If you are a day sleeper, you get migraines, you want your baby’s room dark, or you have a theater room, black out honeycomb shades are for you. These shades will keep out all the light and they are excellent insulators as well.

Faux Wood Blinds vs Real Wood Blinds

Faux Wood Blinds are the new trend these days due to clever marketing with rumors of “they hold up longer, they don’t warp, they don’t fade, they are better for the Arizona climate, they are cheaper.”

We would like to set a few things straight about Faux Wood Blinds versus Real Wood Blinds:

• Fact: The term Faux is used to describe faux, composite, or any kind of fake 2″ wood material!
• Fact:  The reason Faux wood blinds do not warp is they have almost twice as many ladders to prevent the slats from WARPING!! (Ladders are the strings that support the slats and help the blinds tilt.  On a 72 x 60 window, a faux wood blind will have 7 ladders whereas a real wood blind will have 4 ladders.)  Faux wood blinds need more support to prevent them from warping. Real wood doesn’t warp over time.
• Fact:  In dry or hot climates or bathrooms, real wood blinds will still hold up better. On a side note – if you have a window in the garage, for example, where the temperature fluctuates from 10 degrees in the winter to 130 degrees in the summer, you will have a problem with faux or real wood blinds.  In this case, we would recommend a 2” aluminum blind. It will look like your 2” wood blind from the front of the house and will hold up to the extreme temperature fluctuation.
• Fact: Faux products are made from oil. Wood products are made from trees. They both use materials from mother earth. The Planet will survive your purchase of real wood blinds.
• Fact: Quality wood blinds do not fade.

The truth about Faux Wood Blinds – they are cheaper to purchase, but might not last as long as real wood blinds!

PS: We have real wood blinds on a 96″ x 72″ window in our family room. My kids have abused these blinds, hit them with balls, lifted them up and gone underneath them to look out of the window and you couldn’t tell. They look great.  I’ll never brag that blinds will or should hold up to that kind of abuse, but the Diamond Select Wood Blinds we have, have been holding up to my kids!
